After a few years of running services at home I moved the essentials to one small virtual server. One vCPU and a gigabyte of RAM turned out to be more than enough for a static site, a couple of containers and backups.

journald and Docker both keep logs forever by default. Capping the journal size and enabling json-file rotation for containers fixed a slowly filling disk.

Switching the congestion control to BBR with the fq qdisc noticeably smoothed out transfers over long, lossy links.
